So, here we are, it's quarter to midnight and not a child in the house washed, ( for those of you who are a bit baffled by the above expression it simply means that we are running out of time and nothing has been done ). Well, not quite nothing, thanks to Katja who has been very busy packing boxes, sorting out stuff we don't want anymore and generally keeping things moving forward. In the meantime I have been taking care of the really important stuff like going to my local Greek restaurant after work to see how Euro 2008 is progressing. Most of you might find this a little bit unfair but, when moving to a new neighbourhood ( or new country in this case ) you need to have a topic of conversation for the neighbours. Do we have any neighbours, by the way ?
Enough of that nonsense, let's take stock here and see what actually has been achieved.
We have found a house.
A furniture removal company has been hired.
Transport for our 2 horses has been organised and we have a field to put them in when we get there.
Ronya's bedroom furniture, our bedroom furniture and various other pieces have been dismantled and are ready for loading in the truck.
Approximately 50 cartons have been packed with all sorts of stuff. We just need to pack the other 50 now and we're good to go !!
Katja and Cailín ( one of our dogs ) conspired to break our big mirror so we don't need to take that with us.
Our dogs, Cailín and Wolke, have been booked into a 5-star Cat & Dog hotel and will be joining us later in the year when their quarantine period is over.
I have also managed to fill in the holes or tunnels in the garden, including the one running under our shed. I think Cailín was trying to burrow her way to Ireland.
Our ex-neighbours, Kerstin & Frank, have taken possession of our 5 rabbits as bringing them with us proved to be too complicated.
Our other ex-neighbours Steve & Teresa absconded to Georgia, USA with my golf clubs so we won't have to transport them either. ( Just joking, I was planning on buying myself some new clubs and gave Steve my old ones as a thank you for all his & Teresa's help during the last 4 years. I didn't get around to buying new clubs yet so it looks as if I won't be cutting any rough in Mayo this year. )
The house in Germany has been painted top to bottom by Giovanni Buanarroti( Italian painter, not to be confused with his famous ancestor Michelangelo - no scenes from Genesis on our ceilings ) and he has done a great job at a very reasonable price.
So, all in all, lots has been done. There is still lots to do and time is running out but I'm confident we will be packed and ready to go on Saturday June 28th as planned.
Stay tuned for the next update.
